an inner class that periodically (with 1 second intervals) displays the current simulation time. This provides instand visual feedback about the simulation status, especially in situations where the simulation seems to "hang". An example is T1 lab-course, where real-time simulation is used and expected by the students, but osciallating circuits suddenly seem to slow-down the simulation by orders of magnitude.
