The Telerobot is an edutainment robot system.  Our efforts will concentrate on developing our own cheap educational robot system in order to meet the requirements of flexibility, functionality extensibility, easy handling and low cost. This system addresses students in universities and senior high schools and later junior high schools and the kids in elementary school as well.    

 

Telerobot system is developed by  TAMS group of Department of Informatics at University of Hamburg(UHH). The Hardware( the low level controller, the sensors and the motors) are developed by ARMS group of Robotics Institute at Beihang University(BUAA).

System Introduction

The mechanical parts are based on the LEGO bricks and our own designed output and input bricks as the physical background of the project. New designed hardware including the 4 driving DC motors and 9 sensor channels connects the mechanical parts and the software. Students can program using a graphical interface and normal programming language such as C and Java according to their knowledge background.

 

Two controllers are installed on the telerobot, which work as different control levels. A PC works as high-level controller. The communication between the high-level controller (personal computer) and middle-level controller uses Wireless Ethernet. The communication between the middle-level controller and the low level controller is RS232.
